"Yossi and Tibi, two brothers from Czechoslovakia whose parents had been exterminated in Birkenau. They lived for each other, body and soul."
Being in a concentration, you are split up from everyone in your family most of the time. If your lucky you can stay or be near your loved ones. Family in Auschwitz is very rarer to have. But when you do have it you will do whatever you can to keep them safe. You will stay with them as long as you guys are together. I chose this quote because these two brother were lucky, they got to stay together. So when they say they live for each other body and soul this means, they will do everything they can for each other, and will protect them all the way. This is not one person though, its both boys doing the same to the other. Another thing is you never know if you will see these people again so that is when Elie wants to be near his dad. He wants to be able to see his dad, and he wants to know that he is okay. Being split apart would put fear in his mind.
So this is why i chose this quote.

"Please, sir... I'd like to be near my father." "All right . your father will work here, next to you." " We were lucky."
Ellie and his father were more than lucky getting to be near each other, and you can tell that they had a strong relationship. Not many others in the camps got to be with any of their loved ones. Being in a concentration camp meant strictly to work and to suffer consequences when needed, which is why being with family and loved one can sort of be a distraction. Being without family in hard times can be very tough so if you get to be with them you try as hard as you possibly can to stay with them and to try to keep them safe. I chose this quote because i think it shows just how much Ellie wants and kind of needs to be with his father and how lucky he got to get the chance to be with him.

I like how at the end you added why you chose the quote. From the quote that you chose you had a very accurate answer, and it all makes since. I totally agree with staying with their family is very imporatnt to them, and that they want to protect each other. Great answer!

Which quote from Night best describes the new place of "family" in Auschwitz? Explain your choice.
In Night it talks about how Eliezer and his father get separated from the rest of their family. Throughout the book, Elie is very protective because he refuses to be separated from his father. Family is a very important thing while they are at the camp because thinking that their family members are alive motivates them to stay alive so that one day they might see their family again. At the camp there really isn't anyone who you can trust. It's very scary. A quote from the book could be on page 50, where it says, "Please sir... I'd like to be near my father." There, it is showing how he is becoming closer to his father because he is terrified of losing him. At the camp no one has their family because everyone is very rough and careless about how people feel (they don't care they just burn people!) and they separate them, leaving them with no hope. So having his father, Eliezer is very blessed to still be able to stay with him and work by his side (for now, at least).

Quote from book~ Pg.29 "'Men to the left! Women to the right' 8 words spoken quietly, indifferently, without emotion. 8 simple, short words. Yet that was the moment when I left my mother. There was no time to think, and I already felt my father's hand press against mine: we were alone."
This quote shows that from the very beginning, the families were forced apart and separated. They were not given the slightest chance to live together, in peace, although they were in the camp. The families might not have known it then, but they would probably never see each other ever again. Where in the normal lives of these people, now at the camps, they were united with family; now they were split apart. That shows that the Germans were so cruel as to split apart families that were happily united. Some in the camp even had to watch their loved ones digging their own graves, and then being burnt. Before, family had all the meaning in the world. They were people who watched as you grew up, and who you watched, and role modeled. Now, families were torn apart, as if they meant nothing at all. They were torn, and scattered, and killed before one another. Inside the fences of the camps, family had no meaning at all. Only when Elie met kind people in the camp, was family kept together (pg.50- Franek the foreman allowed him and his father to sit next to each other). They were split apart and forced to say goodbye forever, because they would likely never see each other ever again. This quote proves my point; that families were split up, and forced to never meet again, whereas outside the camps families still lived on, in peace, and unity. The meaning of family was completely changed.

Quote-"And I did not know that in that place, at that moment, I was parting from my mother and Tzipora forever. I went on walking. My father held onto my hand."pg.27
This quote shows them splitting up families, and tearing lives apart. That they had to go on walking, forced to say goodbye forever that their family didn't exist any longer. They were pushed in different directions to go on and be herded with new people. This quote shows the new place of family as there is no family, them splitting up, and being forced away. That they were headed in new directions directed by the people keeping them there. They had told men to go one way and women to go the other ripping away people's loved ones and setting their lives out to a new way that the Germans chose. Their concept of family was gone and this word had a new meaning. As to hold on to the ones who you have left against the threat of them being pulled away too. Keeping the new people around you close in a sense that they were who you had now.

"Tibi and Yossi, who had changed Kommandos at the same time i did, came to urge me: "Lets stay together. It will make us stronger." This describes family because it shows that the people in Auschwitz felt they had lost everything like clothes, hair identity, family, etc. But this quote showed that when you people stick together and act as the family that they have lost, it turns the fear of night and the fear of the concentration camp a little bit lighter knowing that you still have family with you to suffer through this mess together. When people unite like they are family,it makes us ten times stronger.

"I stood petrified. What had happened to me? My father had just been struck, in front of me, and I had not even blinked..." In Auschwitz, the common perspective is that family comes above all; they are the only connection you have to your past and you love them; you would sacrifice yourself for their well-being. The reality is that after the harshness and pain, you are not thinking about love. Elie Wiesel says, "Only yesterday, I would have dug my nails into this criminal's flesh. Had I changed that much?" Everyone wishes to remain as principled as they were before the holocaust began, but things are quickly changed; in your mind and in your heart. Family is now something that inspires you and keeps you going, but you realize that the love and devotion you assumed you had, never existed in the way you thought.

This was a great quote to choose, and it fits the situation very well. It shows that when people lose important people (family, friends, etc. ) in their life, it pulls them that much closer. This is because all they have is eachother.

"Please, sir...I'd like to be near my father." "All right. Your father will work here, next to you." "We were lucky."
I chose these lines from the book because the last part 'we were lucky' implies that many of the other people at camp were separated from their families. This means that your real families are now only in your memories and what you remember of them. I'm guessing that the closest to family you now have at your camp would be the people that are living with you or working with you.
This is upsetting because as Levi said, the German officers did so many things to strip away your identity and that it takes a lot of courage and strength to go against that and remember yourselves for who you are.

Family always gets closer when they lose something important to them. ( sorry its kinda short i have no time left)) but great explination!!
