"Yossi and Tibi, two brothers from Czechoslovakia whose parents had been exterminated in Birkenau. They lived for each other, body and soul." Being in a concentration, you are split up from everyone in your family most of the time. If your lucky you can stay or be near your loved ones. Family in Auschwitz is very rarer to have. But when you do have it you will do whatever you can to keep them safe. You will stay with them as long as you guys are together. I chose this quote because these two brother were lucky, they got to stay together. So when they say they live for each other body and soul this means, they will do everything they can for each other, and will protect them all the way. This is not one person though, its both boys doing the same to the other. Another thing is you never know if you will see these people again so that is when Elie wants to be near his dad. He wants to be able to see his dad, and he wants to know that he is okay. Being split apart would put fear in his mind. So this is why i chose this quote. This is good because you explain why they wanted to stay with each other. You also explained why they lived for each other. I like how you used examples of why you support this quote.

The quote, "Please Sir... I'd like to be near my father" shows Eliezer's love and determination to survive through this situation with his father always right by his side. The bond between Eliezer and his father was very strong and they cared about each other so much. Also, Eliezer and his father are the only two males in the family meaning they were separated from Eliezer's mother and sisters. They were all each other had to lean on, relate with and also, to talk with. As Eliezer grew older, he began to gain some independence from his father and do things more on his own, yet he still loved his father of course. The holocaust was a very sad and devastating time in history, so it is important that they had someone in their family with them at all times.

"Please, sir... I'd like to be near my father." "All right . your father will work here, next to you." " We were lucky."
i picked this because elie and his father were so lucky to be near each other because most families get split up and don't get to see each other again. there relationship is very strong with out all of his dads advice the elie would probably be dead by now but hes not. i had to go without my family then i don't know what i would do of course there hard on me and get on me but it is because they love me and without them i think i might be in trouble, maybe not as bad as elie but i understand what it would be like without your family.

Elie was very attached to his family, and since they already lost his sisters and his mother all he had left was his dad, and he didn't want to lose them to. Also since they were in Auschwitz almost nobody got to be where they wanted, and if they did then they weren't there for long because they were gassed or were moved. This also shows what family means in Auschwitz because it was such a depressing place, so people need to have something to cheer them up, and for Elie and his father they were all that they had for each other. Each day after they were done with their work they would come back to their encampment and be relieved by the sight of each other still being alive. If it weren't for each other I highly doubt that either of them would be their.

"there was a woman among us a certain mrs.schachter she was in her fifties and her ten year old son was with her crouched in a corner her husband and two older sons had been deported with the first transport by mistake the separation had totally shattered her" not many family members got to be together it was rare luck that Ellie and his father where put together and so was this woman to be with her son but still was crushed to be separated from the rest of her family some families were just shot or killed to begin with instead of having a chance

"Please, sir...I'd like to be near my father." "All right. Your father will work here, next to you." "We were lucky."
This quote means that Elie got lucky to be with his father. "We got lucky" means that in the camp you would probably get separated with your family. So they truly got lucky. But if you did get separated your family is history. They are gone forever. The closest you will have for family is the people that you sleep with or work with. But they will go away soon too. And your identity is gone forever. No one would call you by your name. And your values that make you "you" will be taken away. So Elie got to stay with his father. And he is lucky he has the chance to be with him at this torturous camp.

"Please, sir...I'd like to be near my father. All right. Your father will work here, next to you. We were lucky."
This quote means that Ellie was lucky that she is staying with her father because in the camps it was considered lucky to be with any of your family. when he was split up with his mother and sister he said that from that moment on his family doesn't exist anymore which shows that it is easy to get separated with your family. i chose this quote because it shows how much Ellie wants to be with his father.

"Yossi and Tibi, two brothers from Czechoslovakia whose parents had been exterminated in Birkenau. They lived for each other, body and soul."
I think this describes family in the Auschwitz because since they were lucky enough to be together, they are doing whatever they can to help each other. Family in Auschwitz means you need to do whatever you can to protect each other and live as long as you can. They feel safer together and it gets rid of some of the fear they have knowing that they have someone that loves and cares for them. Since they were probably one of the only few people that got family they felt like they had to do whatever they can to stay together because they feel like it is all they have left of them.

"I stood petrified. What had happened to me? My father had just been struck, in front of me, and I had not even blinked..." I think that this shows the meaning of family while they are at the camp. Everyone cares about what happens to their family, but they wont defend them as much as they think they should or would have if they were not in this situation. I think that they have this mentality because they are so scared and they have seen everything that has happened and they don't want to get punished for stepping in and helping a family member, so they don't do as much as they would have. They all still care about each other and care what happens to everyone, but they are more cautious about what they will do to help but they always have it in there head what will happen to there family members. I think this is a good quote because it shows how much Elie cared about his father and how people want to stay with their family.

Which quote from Night best describes the new place of "family" in Auschwitz? Explain your choice.
"Please, sir...I'd like to be near my father."
"All right. Your father will work here, next to you."
"We were lucky."
i think that these lines best describe what family means in Auschwitz because it shows that the soldier understands fear of being away from someone that is really close to you which is why he let them work close to each other. in the last line of my quote means that most families were separated from their families. this means that your family now were the people that you work and live with or live close to and your real family was just a memory.

"And I did not know that in that place, at that moment, I was parting from my mother and Tzipora forever. I went on walking. My father held onto my hand." Pg. 27 This event of leaving his sister and his mother will always be there in his heart. Losing someone you love is very hard, thatswhy when peoples parents pass away the children of the parents are usually very sad and have either a good thought or a bad thought of what their parents were like. In order to fill the gap in his heart where his mother used to be he will try to make friends to fill the gap or maybe one day be reunited with his Mom and his sister. I think this is a good quote because it shows how much his family means to him and how hes sad that he is leaving them.

"Yet that was the moment when I left my mother. There was no time to think, and I already felt my father's hand press against mine: we were alone. In a fraction of a second I could see my mother, my sisters, move to the right. Tzipora was holding Mother's hand. I saw them walking farther and farther away; Mother was stroking my sister's blonde hair, as if to protect her." This quote describes how in Auschwitz families are not meant to stay together and that they are ripped apart from each other the minute they arrive. This helps put fear and pain into every person who comes into the camp because they will really feel as though they're losing everything, since family is what they have to hold onto.

I think that this quote best describes the new pace of family because it shows that no matter happens they want to be together. They love each other and even though their identity may have been taken away they still want family. It also shows that the solider might understand the will to be near ones kin and this could explain why he allowed them to work next to each other. The new family is the people you work with but if you can work with your real family its the best of both worlds.
