Meaning of Knowledge: Since the definition of knowledge isn't really there, you just have to know curtain things. An example is: "I know my name is Jordan". I am certain that i know my name is Jordan, and no one can tell me it isn't. In the book there is this: "Hey, kid, how old are you?" "Fifteen" "No, you're eighteen" "But I am not, i am fifteen" This shows that Ellie knows he is fifteen, and no one can tell him different.
Meaning of Belief:
The meaning of believing, well, this is a hard thing to talk about since everyone believes in different things. Real world example: You may believe someone is mean, and I may believe that person is nice, it is just the idea of what you think you know for sure. In the story, almost everyone believes the same thing after they get in the cattle carts, they are going somewhere and it probably isn't going to be good. A quote from the book: "With a start, we awoke and rushed to the window yet again. We had believed her, if only for an instant"
Meaning of Madness:
The meaning of madness is: the state of being totally crazy/insane. Not having or thinking straight thoughts. A quote from the book is: "She is mad poor woman, she is hallucinating from dehydration...that is why she speaks of flames devouring her."

1.What it means to know? When it means to know, you are fully understanding a conflict. You go deeper than just giving a good answer, you have to have reason to finding the meaning of the conflict, that is when you oafishly "know". for example: Like when you and your friend is in a bad relationship with his/her parents you really have to know what they are going through, and not just listen and reply with "yea" or "ok".
evidence: "We never saw him again, he had been given the news, the real news". That moment there he had just realized what was going to happen to them. He figured it out with his own knowledge.
2. What it means to believe. When you really believe, you never give up on yourself. When you believe, you never lose hope on anything or you never give p for what you stand for. When you believe, you never give up to succeed. In real life, i was in the hospital for three days with type one diabetes, i believed that i can make tis disease a daily life routine, and now i am on top of the world.
evidence: In the book, Ellie never gave up to survive, he always looked for reasons to be alive, for his family, for his beliefs, and he never gave up on himself. That is what a true believer is.
3. What it means to be mad. When it means to e mad, there are two meanings, when you are angry, and when you are mentally crazy. You are anxious to be the one who is right, but you are really just eating your brain away. A real world problem is drugs i the U.s. When you do drugs, you can have an over dose or something else that will just take you away from the world.
Evidence: In the book, people thought that moshie the beatle was mad because of what he saw. People thought he was mad because of the way he acted. People did not believe him because nobody would even think about the madness he saw and talked about.

To know something you must have information about it. Information that is probably true, factual. Which means that you will have evidence to back-up the information that you know. You can also not know, or be clueless, confused, or unsure about something. Real World Example: I know that Monday follows after Sunday, and that Tuesday follows after Monday. Night Example: Elie knew that the babies were being thrown into the crimatoria because he had seen it with his own eyes.
To believe is to think confidently think that something is true. There has not been evidence to show you that whatever you believe in is true. You can also believe someone, because they might have told you something that might not be true, but it sounds true, and the person is trustworthy, so you will believe them. You can believe some people people more than others. You will probably believe a family member more than a stranger because you think, "why would my family lie to me?". Another reason you might not believe someone is because there story is crazy. Real world example: When I was younger, I believed that Santa Clause was real, because they told me it was. My friends also believed that he was real, because there parents told them. Night Example: When Moishe the Beadle escaped the Germans, no one believed him when Moishe said what the Germans did to him and other people. They didn't believe Moishe because his story was so crazy and unheard of.
To go mad is wen you have reached the top of crazy. You are imagine things and see things that are not there. You might cry, or scream when you go mad. You can't focus because you have gone crazy. Real World Example: Crazy/mad people that go to asylums because they are mad. Night Example: When Mrs. Schachter keeps thinking that she see's a fire outside when there really isn't, so she keeps yelling, "Fire! I see a fire!" Everyone else on the train says she is mad.

To know something doesn't necessarily mean you have to understand it and believe in it. For example you may know algebra, but it doesn't mean you understand it or believe that you really need it. An example from the book Night is like when Elie and his dad are being told what will go on in Aushcwitz although at they same time they don't understand why they're having to do the things they're doing but they know what they're doing. Knowing something is just having evidence or proof of something. To believe in something is knowing something and understanding it. For example if you believe in God you know all about him and what he's done but some people don't believe in it. In the book Night when the villagers are hearing rumors of terrible things happening to Jews they choose not to believe it because it's something they would rather not know. To be mad/crazy about something is when you believe in something so much that you want everyone to know so bad you go insane. For example it's like when you do a cool trick with your soccer ball but your friends aren't looking and you're like GUYS DID YOU JUST SEE THATT?! and none of them saw it and you're explaining it but no one believes you so you go mad trying to do it again to prove yourself but it doesn't happen. In my opinion the Nazis have gone mad because they believe that Jews don't belong here so badly that they are going to extreme measures to prove it.

Knowing is having witnessed a fact or proof for something. You are certain of it. In the book Elie knows what will happened if he doesn't do something right when he is working for the Germans. He's witnessed hangings and beatings. He has also witnessed a whipping on himself when he did something wrong. For example there are rumors going around about a certain concert but you can tell people what really did happened because you've attended that concert.
Believing is not witnessing or seeing something but you know what the evidence and facts are because you were informed somewhere or have been told so. In the book the soldiers are telling the prisoners were their next destination will be; the prisoners believe them for a fact but they have not yet witnessed being taken to this place. For example your mom will tell you what would happen if you misbehaved that the monsters of the night will come and get you and you always believed her, but you've never witnessed any of the monsters each time you misbehaved.
Madness is making up your own theories. Usually no one will believe you. When the prisoners where in the train car Mrs. Schachter was screaming "Jews look! Look at the fire! Look at the flames!" even though there wasn't any fire and everyone thought she has gone mad. For example old people will usually become mad and will lose memory of most things. They might even believe that you are poisoning them when you are actually trying to give them medicine.

I agree that if you believe something that you have reasons behind believing in that thing

I think the difference between belief and madness is that with madness, you are obsessed over something and you don't have any evidence for what you believe in and you don't have any evidence for what you are obsessed over. "Look at the fire! Look at the flames! Over there! With a start, we awoke and rushed to the window yet again. We had believed her, if only for an instant. But there was nothing but darkness." At this time, everything that Mrs. Schächter said, there was no evidence backing up the fact that there was a fire. For beliefs, you hold strongly to your beliefs but you have evidence for what you believe in. For example, if you believe in Christianity, you have they Bible to back up your beliefs. If you are obsessed over a fire that seemed nonexistent, like Madame Schächter was, you have no real evidence for that this is an actual fire to be screaming over. "I continued to devote myself to my studies. Talmud during the day and Kabbalah at night." This means that Elie is very dedicated to his religion and his has his studies to back up his beliefs. yours is kind of short but it has a lot of great points and examples

To know something, is to be certain of something. It is real and it is true. You are knowledgeable of something. In the book, when the sirens went off, all of the guards left the open and went indoors for safety. There were 2 cauldrons of hot soup and animals for the inmates to seize and eat in the middle of the camp laying out with no watch guard. The inmates "knew" that if they got caught, they would be beaten and killed. A few of the inmate's hunger overcame their fear so they went for it. These men were caught. They saw it coming though, because they knew that this could happen. Knowing something and believing something are different. When you believe something, it might not be necessarily true. When somebody "knows" something, that means that there is evidence to prove it is certain and correct. Believing something is like believing in Santa Clause, you thought he was real, but there was no evidence to prove he was. In the book, Moishe told people about what happened to Jewish people in the past because he experienced it. When he told people the story about what happened, no one believed Moishe because they didn't experience it like he did, and there was no evidence to prove it happened at that time. When someone goes mad, they go crazy in a way. When they believe something, and somebody else doesn't believe that same thing, they make trying to make that person believe it their first priority. In the book, when the lady on the train was yelling "fire," no one believed her because there was no evidence to prove that there was fire so she kept screaming it, and she became mad, and only thought about the fire.

What does it mean to know?
To know means that you are educated and aware however you don't have to be believing in what you know. As said in the book by Mrs. Schachter "Look! Look at this fire! This terrible fire! Have mercy on me!" She knows and is aware that there is something horrible happening but no one else believes her. She is aware of what is going on and she is trying to prove her point. In real life you know that 5+5=10 because you are educated about math and you were aware of how to add and you paid attention in class when they taught you in kindergarten.
What does it mean to believe?
To believe is that you have supported an idea or maybe someone. A quote from the book "Jews, listen to me! Hat's all i ask of you. No money. No pity. Just listen to me!" Moishe is trying to have everyone believe in him and his story but no one is really believing because that is not what they feel has happened. In real life many people believed that in 2012 that the world was going to end and people tried to convince us that it was true with TV ads and putting it into the media but some people were just not fully believing in it.
What does it mean to be "mad" (crazy)?
To be mad or crazy means to be loosing your mind like you have no common sense to make any rational decisions. From the book it says " Then, as if walking from a deep sleep, he slapped my father with such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours." A gypsy prisoner feels as if he is more important then the other prisoners. In real life many elders loose their minds a little more because there since has gone away.

To know you must have Knowledge, to have knowledge is to have education, to have education you must learn. The people in the death camps did not have good education so they did not know how to learn correctly. SO when they could not learn correctly about the situation that they were in. So when they got in the did not know what was going on because they could not learn about the situation by them selves. The Germans thought that they could control them by them selves.
To believe is to have hope in something in the Jews situation. So they had to believe that some one would come and save them at some point in time.
It means to be mad and crazy to lose your common sense and not know what is going on.

What does it mean to know?
It means that when you know something, you may know deep down it is true but you can never truly find the answer because you feel that you will try to make any sort of effort to make it valid even though it may not be true. In this situation, the Jewish people can't grasp on what is happening and it drives them to insanity. This is why most of the people went mad, simply because they can't "wrap" their minds around what is happening and they cant find a way to cope with the situation.
Quote: "As for Moishe, he wept and pleaded: Jews, listen to me! That's all I ask of you. No money. No pity. Just listen to me! He kept shouting in the synagogue, between the prayer at dusk and the evening prayer." Here, Moishe the Beetle is trying to get the Jewish community to listen to him. Those people are listening and taking it in, but it is so terrifying and overwhelming, they try to deny believing anything that he is saying.
Real World Example: The whole world eventually knew that the Holocaust was going on. It was just that we could not believe anything that the soldiers that encountered this said. The government talked about this for a while and eventually, they understood it, and needed to plan the liberation of the Jews and to destroy Nazi Germany once and for all.
What does it mean to believe?
Believing means that even if something has not been proved by science, data, etc, in your heart and mind, it is true. This mainly ties to religion. For example, monotheistic and polytheistic beliefs may not be able to be proved by science, but their followers know that it is true. Some people may be atheist, which means they are not a part of a monotheistic or a polytheistic religion, they don't believe that there is any sort of god. In this case, they may not believe in any specific religion, but everyone has beliefs, whether its about culture, religion, ethnics, etc.
Quote: "Oh god, Master of the Universe, in your infinite compassion, have mercy on us..." This quote means that since the Jews are starting to realize what is happening, they pray to their god that he will protect them and welcome them into his kingdom as soldiers of god.
Real World Example: People in sickness or in dire need of love from their friends and family request that they pray for them in a way that god will protect them and that he will help them get better. I did this when my mom was about to have her thyroid removed in an effort to rid her of thyroid caner.
What does it mean to "mad" (crazy)?
My definition of being "mad" is being in a very unstable mental state. It is a time when some people could even have witnessed something for terrifying that it made them go into shock and then when they try to convey their thoughts, they cannot because they would almost be in a paralyzed fort-of state.
Quote: "She is hallucinating because she is thirsty, poor woman...That's why she speaks of flames devouring her..." This explains how this woman was really hallucinating but what is she actually got a glimpse of the future?
Real World Example: People can go into complete shock and eventually hallucinate. I have a cousin who is studying to become a psychologist. She says it is a very difficult job because she has to talk to people whom have gone mad.

Knowing- to be aware of something through observation, inquiry, or information. You understand the facts and you can approach the question from several aspects yet still run into a lot of debate over the subject. The dictionary has several definitions of the word "know." I know that my full name is Carson Elizabeth Fielding because that is what it says on my birth certificate. "If anyone goes missing, you will be shot, like dogs." They know now that the Nazis are serious. Jews will not escape and they used fear to keep them from escaping. Jews know how serious they are and now know how afraid they truly should be. Believing- accept something as true; feel sure of the truth or to hold something as an opinion; think or suppose. you have full faith or value in something that nothing can change your mind about. It can be expressed in various ways, such as opinions, faiths, answers, people, and many more. You can believe in so many things, many times different than what others think, and that's what makes us all human and different. I believe God created all of the Earth. "I thanked God, in an improvised prayer, for having created mud in His infinite and wondrous universe." This shows that after all the hard times they have been through, they kept their faith. They still believed in God even though they didn't understand why He put them through what they did. Madness- the state of being mentally ill, severely or mentally deranged, manifested in a wild or aggressive way. You are delusional and don't really know what you're saying and can't think straight. There are many causes as to why people go crazy or mad. The man in the movie went mad because he hadn't eaten in 7 days. "Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire!" "Look! Look at this fire! This terrible fire! Have mercy on me!" No one on the train understood why she was yelling this, they all thought she was just mad. She was mad, they got that right, but she ended up knowing what she was talking about. It was just exaggerated a lot because they saw the fires she was talking about.

What does it mean to know?
You know something when you feel comfortable enough to share you information or opinion with others and you believe in what you are saying. To know is to understand what is happening around you and understand why it is happening. In the book it says that they always talk to the inmates after the roll call so they can find out information about the camp. It was important for them to know what was going on because it meant life or death for them. In real life, once we meet someone we feel like we know them because we know their name and that is what we identify them by. We know them because we talk to them and get to know them. when your friend is talking to someone and you respond with " I know them".
What does it mean to believe?
To believe means that you we will accept the information that you are given and accept that it is true. or believe means that you put your faith in a person and you believe that they will do you right and help you out. You can believe in a something like a god and you believe that they will help you though life and always look out for you. In night, Ellie started to not believe in his god because he was getting taken to a concentration camp and his life was about to become very bad. He kept wondering when his god was going to save him,or when they were put in the lines and told to march they wanted to believe that they were going to the work camps and not the death camps. In the real world, we trust a person with secrets or valuable items because we believe in those people or that we trust them. We think that they will do the right thing for you and them.
What does it mean to be "mad" (crazy)?
To be crazy or mad means that you see things that aren't there or you see things different from other people. If you are seen as crazy people think something is wrong with you, they avoid you and never understand you. You are never to be believed and anything that comes out of your mouth is automatically thought as false. You know what you see but other people never see the same thing. In night, the old lady that was in the cattle car kept saying that there was fire and keep screaming, they struck her upside her head and knocked her out to make her be quiet. They thought that she had gone mad and that she was seeing fire. She was seeing things that she thought was there but the other people couldn't see. They didn't believe what she said and knew that is wasn't true. In real life, we think people are crazy that say that the world is going to end, they see things that we don't see and we automatically disagree wit htem and don't think that they are right.

When you know something, you have intellectual reasoning behind it. It could be a true fact that is addressed by the government. In statistics, it could be something that is measured with accurate units. For example, "Not fifty. You're forty. Do you hear? Eighteen and forty." on page 30 in Night. This quote shows how the SS man is regretting their age. They know their ages because they know when they were born. However, in order to get more people to work, the SS man changes their ages. Another example could be when a substitute teacher asks you what your name is. You would know this because your family has named you when you were born. Also, the school would have it in their records. Therefore, what you know would be something that you have learned and that is a true fact.
Belief may not be true fact. It could be something you have faith in, such as your religion. It could be a family tradition going on for generations. Sometimes, you cannot explain your beliefs because there may not be any true reasoning behind it. For example, "Why do you cry when you pray?.....I don't know, I answered, troubled. " on page 4 in Night. This shows how you sometimes you may not know the reasoning behind things you do. This is called belief. Another example could be that people worship differently in their religions. This is due to your faith and spiritual ethics. Therefore, your beliefs are part of your identity and what shapes you.
Madness is when you are having different mental thoughts that cause you to behave in a certain way. Your attitude is what causes others to believe about you. For example, "Keep her quiet! Make that madwoman shut up." on page 26 in Night. This shows how the woman was hallucinating and thinking of all the things that could happen to her. She created an impression on others that would make them think ill about her. Another example would be when you could be having a dream at night that causes you to talk in your sleep. If you were sleeping over, your friend may think that you are crazy and not invite you again. Therefore, your attitude causes others to think differently about you.
